The ACU010 name refers to the gauge of the strings. Guitar strings are measured in inches, and 010 indicates that the thinnest string in the set is 10/1000 of an inch thick. By comparison, in a 0.011 set, the thinnest string is 11/1000 of an inch thick. Common gauges for western guitars range from 0.010 to 0.015. Lighter strings offer more treble, while heavier strings provide more bass and a fuller sound.
As a general guideline, heavier strings are well suited to chord playing due to their full tone, while lighter strings are ideal for fingerpicking and solo playing, where their brighter sound makes details easier to hear.
